history of burlesque lecture cabaret
an Atlas Obscura event
This spectacular show has been produced twice in collaboration with Atlas Obscura. The event is structured around a lecture on the history of burlesque punctuated by performances illustrating the style of each era. For the first edition I hired a doctoral student who is studying burlesque and worked with her to develop a show based around her lecture. In the 2017 edition Dr. Lucky, the World’s Premiere Ph(Double)D, concentrated her semester-long course on burlesque history into one very sexy and informative evening. In both editions the six phenomenal performers brought the story of burlesque to life with their on point representations of each period of burlesque history. Both editions were financially successful, drawing a very focused and enthusiastic crowd who packed the space. Curating this event was very exciting; I am a huge fan of burlesque and it was wonderful to book so many of my favorite performers.
